Google remains No. 1, but at what? And how long?

Google is number one at number of pages in their database at times, but it doesn't mean that they are all available to searchers. Google had the most traffic in January also, but that doesn't mean it all came directly from their site. Google has been reselling data for years to search sites like Yahoo!. Now with Yahoo! not using their data, will Google have one less number one? Where the data was actually piping through Yahoo!, who really is number one?
Will someone outside of marketing give us numbers we can believe? Personally I think Google is making a lot of the numbers as a final heave before collapsing further into a downward spiral. I think they have the ability for a comeback. It will just take time.
