A new site called Microsoft Watch has a free tool for checking web site statistics. It gives you the Google PR (is this worth anything anymore, but here it is), the Alexa ranking and the number of Yahoo! back links. It even attempts to guess at the number of site visitors a site receives daily. Check it out at Web ranking tool.

AskJeeves Increases Visitors

AskJeeves has increased the number of visitors to it's search sites by 150 percent from May to June according to comScore Media Metrix. Although still a small search company, this signals that the battle for top dog in the search engine world is far from over reinforcing the idea that SEO work needs to consider all players. AskJeeves also owns Search Holdings a company that owns several portal sites including MyWay, Iwon, Excite and the gateway MySearch. AskJeeves uses the Teoma search engine technolgy.
Audio and Video Search on Google

According to the New York Post, Google is planning to include the ability to search the Internet for audio and video clips. This is seen as a necessary effort in order for Google to maintain their lead as the head search source.
Currently this type of search is available at AltaVista and AlltheWeb (both owned by Yahoo!) and at AOL.

AskJeeves gets smarter and shows thumbnails of web sites

AskJeeves smart search shows a box with what it guesses to be your primary search target. Rather than weeding through various sites, they hope to hit the nail on the head. If the smart search doesn't work for you, just ignore the box and review the normal listings as before.
The thumbnails feature does what many other sites do now; show you the web page before you click to it. This beta binoculars feature shows the thumbnails when you move the mouse over a special icon, a bit different than the other guys.
