AOL New Site Design, New Browser and New Desktop Search Tool

The new AOL is here! Gee, that's not news. I think I hear this mantra on a quarterly basis. The newest search related feature is their desktop serach tool. Not to be left behind, AOL is also introducing a tool that searches local files, network files and the Internet. AOL's tool only works in their new browser however, something that is bound to backfire if they plan to have the masses that don't subscribe to AOL use it. Google Desktop Search Download - BETA

Not to be left behind, Google has introduced the beta (read "may have problems") version of their desktop search tool. These all-in-one tools give you the ability to search files on your harddrive and network as well as the Internet from one interface. This tool requires a computer running Windows XP or Windows 2000 SP 3+. You should also have 128 mb of memory although you'll really want more for faster searching. The November update was seen by many to be a tragedy and people are worrying that another update is in the works ready to send their optimized page tumbling to a deep abyss. Last time our customers fared well during the change just by continuing to follow common sense and not stretching any rules. Will the same thing happen again? Are those that complained over-doing their SEO work. Me thinks so. Check out the paranoia at ---> Cre8asite forums. Google - Raid of the Googlebots.
