The Force of EEVL
Published by Picturesque on Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at 10:42 PM.
EEVL may sound like an anacronym for the bad guys in a poorly written spy novel, but it's accually a new search service. EEVL allows you to search free online ejournals in the fields of engineering, mathematics and computing. EEVL is a UK-based not-for-profit guide run by information specialists from Heriot Watt University, with input from other universities in the UK, including the University of Birmingham, and Cranfield University. Google Spiders More Frequently Now
Published by Picturesque on Monday, November 22, 2004 at 9:39 AM.
If you watch your server log files (you do, don't you?), you may have noticed Google indexing your site more frequently. In order to please investors and searchers as well, Google has changed their policy to provide more up to date content. My push to have web sites change to a content management system is vindicated. By having a system where you can easily update your web site, you constantly have changing content and up to date information on your site. Do you think Google will keep reindexing sites that never change? Want to be indexed frequently long term? My recommendation is to have a system where you can easly change your web site content and add to it without having to pay a developer each time you want a change. For more information on a content system, email me or visit Picturesque. For info on Google's updating more frequently, click here ======> Google Moves to Continual Indexing

Google has introduce a new beta search. Called Google Scholar, this search limits you to a subset of the regular Google data. While you could do this with Google hacks, this makes it much easier and (theoretically) brings up more data than a hack. Now you can search through educational material without getting shopping sites in your results! Well, in theory anyway. Click to try it out ----> Google Scholar

MSN Search Beta Set to Launch - But not that soon
Published by Picturesque on at 9:27 AM.
There are many false rumors about the new MSN search engine. Whether started by Microsofties to keeep the story churning or just people with too much idle time on their hands, don't believe any of it without first checking an authoratative source. While MSN had a techonlogy preview already, there is not currently one active. They have plans to release a second preview for people to test, but none exists at the time this article was written. Currently MSN's active engine is still showing Yahoo! results. What should you do in the meantime? Talk with your SEO professional about buying a listing in bCentral. This is a Microsoft service and my guess is they'll be using their own services first when considering who gets the better listings. If you aren't made of money, this is a good place to start.MSN Search Beta Set to Launch
