About.com is a portal site with information on virtually every topic. Unfortunately that content is served with an overwhelming amount of advertising making the site unbearable to use for any amount of time. Perhaps a new owner will fix it? Throwing their hats into the ring are a number of major search engine companies proving that portal sites are indeed a part of the strategy.
